All levels — genuinely. The sessions are designed to be approachable whether you're new to baking or you've been doing it for years. Simone's teaching style is warm and accessible, and I'll be guiding photography in a way that meets you where you are.
Everything is tailored to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.
-
10 guests attending the Retreat. This is intentionally small so there's space for genuine connection, personalized guidance, and a calm pace throughout the week.
-
You'll stay in a private, architecturally designed home overlooking Lake Hāwea. It's spacious, beautifully appointed, with underfloor heating, multiple living areas, and stunning views.
Room options include:
Premium private rooms (best views, ensuite)
Standard private rooms (shared bathroom)
Shared twin rooms (two guests per room)
-
In some cases, yes — depending on the room type. Premium and Standard Private rooms can accommodate a partner for an additional fee. This is handled individually, so if you're interested, let me know when you book.
-
Absolutely manageable. The chef can accommodate most dietary needs — just let me know when you book and we'll make sure it's sorted.
-
April is autumn in New Zealand — so expect cool, crisp days (around 12–18°C) and cooler evenings. It's beautiful for photography, but you'll want layers, a warm jacket, and comfortable walking shoes.
The house has underfloor heating, so you'll be comfortable inside.
-
Yes - strongly recommended. Travel insurance should cover trip cancellation, medical expenses, and any unexpected changes to your plans
-
Yes, and it's intentional. Some afternoons and evenings are left unstructured so you have space to rest, wander, read, or just be. This isn't a packed itinerary.
-
Just yourself, your camera or phone, comfortable clothes, and an apron if you have a favorite one (though we'll have some there too).
A full packing list will be sent closer to the date.
-
Rooms are released in stages, and some will book quickly. If you're interested, I'd recommend booking as soon as you're ready.

Full details are outlined in the nz retreat cancellation policy, but in short:
A $1,500 deposit secures your spot (non-refundable)
Cancellations 6+ months out: deposit forfeited, payments made may be transferred to another retreat or remaining refunded (conditions apply)
Cancellations 3–6 months out: 50% retained, or transfer to another guest
Cancellations within 60 days: no refund, but you can transfer your spot with approval
-
If I need to cancel for any reason, you'll receive a full refund or the option to transfer to a rescheduled date.
In the case of force majeure events (natural disasters, pandemics, etc.), a credit toward a future retreat will be offered rather than an automatic refund.
-
This retreat isn't suited to:
People looking for constant activity and entertainment
Anyone uncomfortable with small group settings or downtime
Those expecting a luxury resort experience (this is a beautiful private home, but it's intimate and grounded, not polished-hotel perfect)
If you're someone who needs a packed schedule or struggles with unstructured time, this might not be the right fit.
